Pogo Rogue
Pogo Rogue is a roguelike action platformer developed as a Bachelor's capstone project, featuring locomotion and combat mechanics centered around pogo stick mechanics. The project was developed collaboratively within a medium-sized team exceeding 20 members using GameMaker. The developer served as enemy designer and programmer, responsible for enemy behavior systems, encounter design, and implementation.
Major Roles
Enemy Designer
Enemy design contributions encompassed concept development for the majority of mob archetypes, including a snail that deposits ooze terrain to impede player mobility, a mole that emerges unpredictably from burrows to engage the player with ranged attacks, and a subordinate enemy variant derived from the first boss encounter. Additional enemy types were conceived and implemented post-launch during early access iterations. Boss encounter design contributions included attack pattern specification for the first and second boss encounters, as well as the gameplay flow and attack pattern of the final boss.
Enemy Tool Programmer
Enemy system implementation encompassed diverse behavioral mechanics and specialized functions. Core functionality included locomotion with gravity simulation, player tracking and projectile targeting, energy shield generation to deflect player projectiles, and explosion effects. Architectural contributions included development of base enemy actor classes and reusable enemy templates, such as wandering enemy and turret archetypes, facilitating efficient creation of future enemy variants.
Enemy Programmer
Beyond implementing core enemy systems and mechanics, additional contributions included attack pattern programming for advanced boss encounters. Specifically, attack sequences were implemented for the second boss encounter, as well as phase-specific attack patterns for the final boss's first and second phases.
